Today we attended a wonderful High Tea put on by the British Women's Club. This event benefits the school and community which the BWC has adopted. We enjoyed a ballet performance and piano recital. Refreshments were tea and pims (British cocktail with cut up fruit), scones, hot cross buns, strawberries and cream, and a wonderful assortment of cakes and cookies. It was a delightful afternoon!

AWCP Meeting today with guest speakers who were part of the search, rescue and recovery team during the terrible Leyete landslide. These engineers are from local universities and are researching and developing ways to predict and prepare for natural disasters. The presentation was very interesting and informative. We learned that the fault down the middle of this island causes the plates to move every year. That movement along with the torrential rains caused this disaster. Two very minor earthquakes in the vicinity were not to blame. Deforestation was not to blame. The depth of the slice of earth that literally dropped off the mountainside was 30 m, far deeper than any tree roots could have held. The mud and rocks pushed the village 500 m from its original position. Only 20 people from the village survived. Up to 1500 are believed to have perished. Rescue and recovery efforts were hampered and eventually stopped after 8 days due to the water logged land which could not support the heavy earth moving machinery.

I met Michelle and her mom, Deanna, for lunch at the Peninsula. Deanna will be interviewing for a teaching job at the Brent International School on Thursday.

ITS GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR! I was so happy to be able to watch the UCLA Final game here in Manila. The only bad part was I had to watch it alone. It was at 9 am here so Terry was at work listening to it over the internet and Allison was at school checking Yahoosports.com in the library during her study hall period. What an awesome team! Hopefully they will all stay and play out their four years before going pro.

Kenny got in some last minute shopping and exploring today while Allison was at school. He and Allison had a quick dinner at the mall before heading to the airport. What a great visit it has been!
