July 8-10 Hong Kong in a Hurry!

On Saturday, July 8th, Maggie, Terry, Katie, and I drove to Clark Air Force Base, about two hours north of Manila to catch a flight for Macau. We then took a taxi to the Ferry from Macau to Hong Kong Island, then another taxi under the bay and into the Kowloon area and our hotel, the Mirimar. We arrived, then went to a great little place call Friar Tuck's, where we had an incredible gourmet meal, before heading back to get some sleep.

We were up early and walked about a mile to the massive underground subway station. It started raining on us, so were happy to be walking underground. We rode a train for about thirty minutes to Shenzen where we did some marathon shopping for the next 6 hours or so. Fun time, we found some great bargains and returned to Hong Kong in time to enjoy this beautiful park before heading to the harbor for dinner and an amazing light show from across the bay.

The light show was so neat! As it gets dark, the lights from all of the buildings across the bay start coming on in different flashing colors. Music plays and lasers shoot across the water.
The show lasted about 20 minutes until all of the buildings were lit with color and the sky was completely dark.

We headed to the night market for our final shopping experience in Hong Kong. Wow, we found great original paintings, silk robes and ties, and an abundance of local arts and crafts. Great fun!
We shopped until we ran out of money, then headed back to the hotel area and a little club that took our credit cards. After a glass of wine and a midnight snack our great Hong Kong adventure came to an end. We all agreed that it was a wonderful introductory experience, and we all want to go back!
