July 16-17
We spent 2 days with Bob and Karen in Bradenton. They have a great house with a huge yard. Tuesday we spent the day on the boat cruising all around the islands in Sarasota and Tampa Bays. What a beautiful day! I was completely fascinated by the many Blue Herons.
In the evening, after a great Mexican meal, we drove to a park on the coast to watch a storm roll in as the sun set. Gorgeous!

Couldn't keep these animals off the beach

Camping and cycling the Withlacoochee Trail
We set up camp and enjoyed our first evening cooking steaks and potatoes over the campfire. Yummo!
When we woke up Saturday morning, the weather was beautiful, so we had a great breakfast before heading out to find the trail head near Dunnellon. It took a couple of hours and several calls to the State Forest office before finding the secluded trail head....... By this time the clouds and showers had rolled in. We decided to try to squeeze in a few miles between downpours and gave up after about 10 miles when we were all completely soaked to the bone. We stopped at the local Beall's outlet and bought new clothes for everyone, before taking to the road in search of a great place to enjoy dinner and the sunset on the Gulf Coast. We found a great spot in Hudson Bay and enjoyed the rest of our day and evening.

Lee as always... so entertaining ...Sunday morning was beautiful so we took off on our bikes from the campsite and rode the lower end of the trail, clocking about 22 miles. The Bruey's and McLeod's packed up to headed home while Terry and I drove back to Inverness to retrieve my cell phone, which I left at Beall's. We found a little Mexican Restaurant and had dinner before heading back to enjoy our campfire and listen to music.
On Monday morning, Terry and I packed up our camp and then rode our bikes from the campground north about 8 miles and back. We logged about 46 total miles in the three days. The trail is 46 miles from start to finish, but we still have about 23 miles in the center of the trail which we will have to see the next time.
We headed home to attend the funeral of our dear friend and neighbor Martel Matthews.
Later, after dinner with Sean and Lauren at CJ's, we drove to Bobby and Karen's in Bradenton.
