September 28, 2006 Typhoon Milenyo
That is a smile of relief. Terry had to hold that glass window together for about 30 minutes before a smart, thinking young Filipino thought to move our kitchen table to brace it. Whew! We had some scary moments as Typhoon Milenyo whipped around our 25th floor apartment for about 3.5 hours. The Navy web site reported winds to be as high as 180 miles per hour.

After bracing the joints to the steel beams, they used the outdoor table to help brace the door joints before lodging 2 by 4's in to keep the glass from buckling. It worked!

You can't even see out of the windows the rain is coming in so fast!

Rain came in through these windows so fast that we had trouble mopping and bailing it quickly.

Once the storm passed we walked around our neighborhood and over to Michelle and Barry's.

This tree "overtook" the electric wires right next to Michelle and Barry's house. It brought down the concrete neighborhood electricity, cable, and telephone pole. They were without power for 2 weeks.

Friday, September 29, 2006 Happy Birthday to Me!

Unfortunately the typhoon kept a few special things from happening for me this year. First of all, Terry had hired a string quartet to play for us in the penthouse while we enjoyed a romantic dinner. That had to be canceled. We were also planning to take a banca boat to Puerto Galera for the weekend to dive, snorkel, and enjoy the bay, but the coast guard was not allowing boats on the bay. The roads south of Manila were unpassable anyway so the trip was called off.

I did get to have Freaky Friday lunch with the girls and dinner with Terry and friends.
